Sophie Trudeau
Violinist whose melodic lines are central to the band's chamber-rock force.
biography
Sophie Trudeau joined GY!BE in the late 1990s and became one of the most recognizable instrumental voices in the ensemble. Her violin lines often carry the melodic and emotional center of the band's long-form pieces.
In GY!BE, the violin can sound elegiac, severe, devotional, or alarm-like. Trudeau's parts often sit between folk melody and chamber music, rising through the guitars and percussion during the band's crescendos.
She is also a core member of Thee Silver Mt. Zion and appears in Set Fire to Flames, making her one of the clearest links between GY!BE's instrumental scale and the more vocal, lyric-driven side of the Montreal collective.
