Esmerine
A chamber-oriented project connected to the same Montreal experimental network.
profile
Esmerine was founded in Montreal in 2002 by percussionist Bruce Cawdron and cellist Rebecca Foon. It sits near the GY!BE constellation through Cawdron's work with Godspeed and Foon's work with Silver Mt. Zion.
The group blends marimba, cello, percussion, strings, and global folk influences into instrumental music that is quieter and more chamber-focused than GY!BE but still emotionally expansive.
Albums such as Dalmak and Lost Voices show the group extending beyond post-rock into Turkish collaborations, minimalism, and acoustic ensemble writing.
