Thierry Amar

A key low-end and orchestral presence in GY!BE's expanded ensemble sound.

biography

Thierry Amar joined GY!BE during the expansion from a small group into a larger ensemble. His bass work, both electric and upright, helped give the band its heavy orchestral weight.

Amar's playing bridges rock rhythm, chamber music, and drone. In the band's long builds, his low-end lines can act as pulse, pressure, and architecture for the guitars, strings, percussion, and tape elements around him.

He is also a major figure in Thee Silver Mt. Zion and Black Ox Orkestar, linking GY!BE to other projects that draw on chamber-rock, folk, political song, and Yiddish musical traditions.
