Ratchet Orchestra

Nicolas Caloia's free-jazz big band, with two early GY!BE players in its ranks.

profile

Ratchet Orchestra is a Montreal free-jazz big band led by bassist and composer Nicolas Caloia.

Former GY!BE cellist Norsola Johnson and early French horn player Thea Pratt have both played in the orchestra.

Its large, loosely organised sound connects GY!BE's early orchestral instincts to Montreal's improvised music community.
