Lhasa de Sela
A Montreal-based songwriter whose work crossed the same independent music map.
profile
Lhasa de Sela was a Mexican-American singer-songwriter based in Montreal for much of her career. Her music drew from Mexican folk, chanson, jazz, and other traditions, carried by a voice that was direct, intimate, and unmistakable.
She is a crossing path rather than a side project: her work sits beside the same Montreal independent community that shaped many Constellation-era collaborations.
Her albums La Llorona, The Living Road, and Lhasa sit outside post-rock, but they belong in this map because they show how porous the Montreal independent scene was across language, folk forms, and experimental practice.
